This print is also known as ‘Boston Stump’ or ‘Hare’. From the so called ‘Sequels to the Liber Studiorum’, which were unpublished and mostly unfinished. One of a few prints engraved solely by Turner.
This is a Later impression printed in sepia c.1873, probably by Seymour Haden, before the Turner sale in 1873.
Lifetime impressions are of the utmost rarity. The series is described by Richard Godfrey in his 'Printmaking in Britain' as 'perhaps the greatest masterpieces of the mezzotint'.
