This impression is what the Printseller’s Association categorized as a proof before letters, printed in an edition of 25. ‘Begun by the end of February 1830 but laid aside until the summer of 1832 or later: not published until 1849.’ Overlooking Canvey Island Southend and the north Thames marshes, Hadleigh Castle is about five miles west of Southend.
